CASE

STUDY

Using the Nutshell Technique and my proprietary half-hour episodic framework, I worked closely with writers to support the development of original series concepts from premise to fully realized pilot structures. My work focused on professional-level episodic architecture, character design, and long-form story engines, alongside broader mentorship in story craft and process.

YLE is Finland’s national public broadcasting network and the Finnish equivalent of the BBC and PBS. Committed to developing new voices, YLE runs a selective talent development program that prepares emerging Finnish writers to create original series for broadcast. I was invited to design and lead the story structure component of the program in collaboration with the creative team.

Writers developed original series and pitched directly to YLE’s series commissioners. In the year prior to my involvement, two of the six projects were produced as original YLE series and broadcast nationally, with international availability through global distribution and streaming platforms.

In addition, I was invited to deliver my renowned Nutshell Technique lecture to YLE’s creative and executive staff across the organization.

The presentation was widely praised internally by senior leadership, with my terminology and concepts becoming reference points in subsequent creative discussions within the organization.
